INTRODUCTION

Physics is the study of matter and energy including everything in between. From the smallest of the small, to the BIGGEST of the BIG! It is THE FUNDAMENTAL science in which all other sciences are founded and as such represents the template for which all other sciences must align their theories with. It then becomes one of the most important areas of study for students to understand and succeed in this ever-advancing technological world!

This is a hands-on, inquiry based laboratory course that will prepare students to take the SAT II Subject Test in Physics, as well as prepare you for more rigorous courses in college. We will begin the course with reviewing the tools and rules for conducting safe investigations into the world that surrounds us and may include but not be limited to the following topics:

Proposed 1st Semester Topics

- Scientific Measurement

- Newton's Laws

- Momentum

- Work and Energy

- Circular Motion

2nd Semester

- Satellite Motion and Gravity

- Waves and Sound

- Electricity and Magnetism

- Light and Optics

- Nuclear and Modern Physics

EXPECTATIONS

We expect all students to arrive on time to class and prepared for class which means homework is completed. We will be relying on each other to help us learn as much as possible each and every day. To facilitate this we will create a safe, cooperative, supportive and positive learning environment at all times.

If you are absent, you are responsible for knowing what you missed and to come in for help if necessary. If you are absent for one day, you get a one day extension on completing make-up work, if you are absent two days, you get two days to make-up the work and so on. Please do not blow off any assignment! Come in for help so you can stay on top of your studies!

Note: Each student is required to submit an exit slip after each class.

Note: Each student is required to present a current topic to the class.  To find your date, please consult here.

GRADES

    Your grade will be based on your performance in three categories;
