Course Description:

I am glad you're here In Spanish class. This class is a combination of direct teaching and Edgenuity assignments, it is setup to help you accelerate and finish your Spanish in a timely manner. You can earn your half credit within 6 to 9 weeks.  This required you to be present and working in class and participate in the daily activities in the classroom and continue working on your Edgenuity assignments when you are in class.

 

Overall a major concentration in class will be towards developing speaking skills in Spanish. The themes covered will be: science & technology, culture, contemporary life, world challenges, personal and public identities, community & families, and beauty & esthetic.

 

Spanish I will provide you with basic Spanish key vocabulary that will help you develop your speaking, writing, reading and comprehension language skills in Spanish. At the end of the course you should be able to hold a high frequency short conversation. This course will prepare you for Spanish Level II.

Spanish II will prepare you to engage in small group conversations and form sentences that will create a short paragraph. You should be able to understand what you are writing and reading and make sense of what you are communicating.

Note: In every course, vocabulary will be reviewed as well as rules in grammar and punctuation. Written accents and special characters must be used, practiced at all times (orally and written), and verb conjugation must be used properly following the Real Academia Española rules for Spanish language.

Materials:

Every student is required to come prepared to class. That means always to have a: pen, pencil, notebook.

Class Procedures:

  1. As soon as you enter to your Spanish classroom you should start a daily assignment.
  2. Proceed taking notes and follow my instructions.
  3. Participate in class assignments.

Assignments: I expect your assignments to comply with my deadlines. If you need extra help on the material taught or directions please make arrangements to see me for tutoring in order for successfully turn in your assignments on time. If for some reason you cannot comply with the deadlines please see me to negotiate extended time or alternative assignments.

Final Exam: the tested areas will be grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Rules and Regulations: Make sure to follow the proper SAISD rules, regulations, and procedures. In addition, you must follow Ms. VanOver’s classroom rules.

  • Respect/Be Courteous
  • Be Prepared (school supplies, etc)
  • Raise Your Hand
  • Teacher Dismissal

El tiempo es oro… use it wisely! Oh! There are always exceptions to some rules…”

Consequences: The student will receive one at a time following the chain of command.

  • Student conference, parent conference, counselor conference, and Team/administrator conference with a possible contract. “I love to invite parents to visit our class…”

Note: Be positive, be responsible, aprende español and be successful – do the right thing always.

Tutoring: “Face your weaknesses, work with your strengths, and overcome your challenges…” G. E.  VanOver.  Make an appointment and come for tutoring available during the week. Check for my tutoring schedule!

Closing Communication: It is the student responsibility to keep up with his/her grades, assignments, and classroom work. Ms. VanOver only facilitates learning, knowledge, academic support, and extra help you might need BUT you MUST ask for it!!!
