The Great Gatsby overview 4/27 -5/27

You'll be reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and watching the movie directed by Baz Luhrmann.  Not only does The Great Gatsby give you an amazing feel for the world of the 1920s, but it will also give you insight into both the beauty and tragedy that comes with pursuing the American Dream. In the first 10 days (4/27-5/2), your efforts will center on the first 3 chapters of Gatsby.

In order to complete this assignment, you need to join our class on Actively Learn. To join, click on Actively Learn site located in the left colum of this page. Please let me know right away if you are unable to log in. We will be using this site for the next few weeks.

Read chapters 1-3.  As you read each section, you will encounter questions and notes. In order to move forward, you will need to answer the questions.

I'll grade the questions based on the depth of your thinking, so be sure to thoroughly explain your thoughts. In Actively Learn, there are four options for grading: limited, basic, proficient and advanced. I'll grade your response for each question and then look for a trend. If the vast majority of your responses are advanced, you'll score in the advanced category earning maximum points.

I've organized the assignments in the order that they should be completed. I'll check in regularly to see how things are going, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fonseca
